Turn your groceries into your spa

I love budget finds and natural bath and body care products - especially those created from basic grocery item. Here are some of my favorite tricks to combat snake skin this winter.

1. Bath instead of shower - anyone under the age of 30 is probably grueling at this statement. However if you are a 70's - 80's baby you understand before there were showers, a nightly bath was essential before hitting the sheets. Rarely did we have skin issues then. A quick soak in the tub at least 2-3 times a week can replenish moisture lost during a normal day or while your skin endures water pressure from your shower head daily. Not only will your skin enjoy it, but your mind will feel so refreshed. Try it, you won't be disappointed.

***Tip: For added moisture drop a few drips of olive oil while the tub is running. Be careful as the tub will be slippery. But slide in and relax for at least 15 mins. Sorry there will be a little ring to tend to after.

2.  Use seasonal fruits for quick facial masks - Pumpkin is in and all so cleansing. I had a little time on my hands this weekend, so I went shopping for natural sources of skin care and came across Pumpkins. They are a rich source of nutrients and antioxidants that can help your skin and hair achieve a healthy glow.
Recently I made a fresh pumpkin mask and my face felt fantastic. My pores shrank, the oil in my face felt lifted and my skin had a notable brightness.

Here are the ingredients from a Life Balanced.

FOR OILY SKIN:
  • ¼ cup of fresh pumpkin meat
  • 1 teaspoon pumpkin seed oil
  • 1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar
  • 1 egg yolk

Directions: Combine all the ingredients and blend together in a food processor. Spread mixture all over face and leave for 20 minutes. Wash off with lukewarm water.

FOR DRY SKIN:
  • ¼ cup of fresh pumpkin meat
  • 1 teaspoon pumpkin seed oil
  • Splash of milk (or whipping cream if your skin is REALLY dry)

Directions: Combine all the ingredients and blend together in a food processor. Apply the mixture to your face and leave for 20 minutes. Rinse off with water.

3.  Brown or raw sugar make for great scrubs - I prefer raw sugar. Mix with olive or grape seed oil and your favorite scent for a intoxicating or invigorating scrub.

***Tip: Citrus oils are great for winter time as they are uplifting and stimulate energy - try Lemon.

You will be surprised as what the food we eat can do for the skin we need to protect.
