Jakarta Fashion week recap
If you are looking for categorized trends, repetitive
styles and seasonal colors from this side of southeast Asia, there is no need to look here. As a matter-of-fact the only
trend you will find from Jakarta
fashion week was that every designer needed to express a diffusion of innovation - in other words they wanted to express a need to be different – very different. From avant garde, edgy looks to runway only designs, backed by classics and frills. Unfortunately, not a particular designer stood out to me in the shows which I attended. However, Sebastian Gunawan, Texsaverio (called the Alexander McQueen of Indonesia), Shafira and Danjyo Hiyoji are among the favorites with Indonesian fashionistas - the later, admittedly one of mine as well.
There is no mistake, there is talent here in Jakarta. As soon as Jakarta designers find their own unique personalities and signature styles and not that of westernized ideologies, perceptions and designs, a definitive global light will shine upon this fashion industry. Just wait and see...
