Emerging Designer Market in Jakarta

The biggest, brightest, friendliest and coolest place to be this weekend is at Plaza Senayan. It is here on the 5th floor you will find the largest and most popular emerging designer market in Indonesia - Brightspot Market. Known as the 'curated market of all things cool'. Designers travel from all over southeast Asia and beyond to participate and attend. And of course Jakarta designers are in full swing.

This idea begin in 2009, by an American/Indonesia couple (as I have been told) - hopefully I will catch up with them soon for a one-on-one. The event was so successful that the two began a retail store as a permanent home for many of these designers and more in 2010, Goods Department Store. A different atmosphere than that which I experienced at Jakarta fashion week, as this seems to be a place where the cool kids hang out. Lots of tattooed, fedora hat wearing men and women sporting their coolest clothes and accessories. There is an international flair of designers here, from Monday to Sunday, Moozee, Major minor, Milcah Irregular, Kidnapped Alley and more.

Off hand when I think of Brightspot Market, I think of Camden town (London) or Chicago's Wicker Park; hip, cool and creative.

Thursday evening launched this 4-day shopping fair and when it's gone, it's gone. So if you miss it, you missed it until next time.
