Vintage Glam: Home Office in progress

Happy New Year! The holiday was great, but now it is back to the real world. For me that means decorating my office in preparation to expand my business and research for 2011.

With that said, as I embarked on yet another move across country in November 2010, I channelled the tension and stress of another trek around the world (from Chicago to London) and found excessive excitement in home decorating - on a budget.

As I flicked through many websites and TV channels, my fairy Godmother directed me to a magical channel - HGTV. I was hooked --House Hunters, House Hunters International, My First Home, Divine Design and then I hit a gem - Antonio's Treatment. This hot tattooed muscle man (looking more like a rocker dude than a designer) transformed a Rock band manager's messy bungalow into a Vintage Glam playhouse. It was coined Vintage Glam--and what is that you ask? Not sure but I am copying it -- as well as I can anyway.

So ladies and gents welcome to my new home office interior design project, Phase I. A novice interior designer, I am, and that means I move a little slower than most since I am also a perfectionist (on a budget). So armed with my handy, dandy iPhone, I have snapped some shots of Phase I - choosing wallpaper, contrasting paint color, arranging furniture in a feng shui workspace and getting started.

I chose the wallpaper first. I knew I wanted a damask print - flock style in black and white. And my search led to Inspire my home. After receiving a few samples I chose this one.

Black and White Damask print on foil
The print is gorgeous, however the foil gave the background a light beige twinkle and didn't match what I originally had in mind - black, white and light grey or red.

So I chose a few contrasting paint colors and loved the dark taupe to the left. Looks better on the wall than on this shot, but trust me...It is gorgeous and has already transformed my room into a tranquil, yet warm space.

We are painting one wall and wallpapering two and a half others. So exciting. Here are a couple of before photos. After coming soon.
